Sometimes, it is possible that an E.I. claimant fall sick while receiving regular E.I. and is not able to fulfill his/her job search responsibility under regular benefits rules. If situation happens to you, don’t be worry. E.I. legislation allows claimants to claim up to 4 weeks of sickness benefits while collecting regular E.I. Please ensure you have a doctor’s note to cover the time you report as sick (in case of audit). If your sickness is going to elapse for more than 4 weeks, an official conversion to sickness benefits is necessary. You will need to call E.I. call centre at 1-800-206-7218 press “0” to request a conversion or visit your local Service Canada centre for assistance.
