BREAKING – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation on January 6, 2025, after nearly a decade in office. Citing declining popularity and internal party conflicts, Trudeau stated he would remain in his role until the Liberal Party selects a new leader. This decision comes amid economic challenges, including rising living costs and a projected $61.9 billion deficit for 2023–24, exceeding previous targets. Additionally, the recent resignation of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, who opposed certain fiscal policies, intensified calls for Trudeau’s departure. The Liberal Party is expected to hold a leadership race, with potential candidates such as Chrystia Freeland, Dominic LeBlanc, and Mark Carney being considered. Parliament has been prorogued until March 24, 2025, to facilitate this transition.
