Service Canada has the authority to garnish your EI benefits payment according to the Family Orders and Agreements Enforcement Assistance Act. The money is deducted against claimant’s net EI benefits payment and will be forwarded to the Department of Justice. It is possible to have more than one FOA in effect on a claimant’s file. EI call centre agent is able to provide you with general and payment information, however if claimant is seeking explanation on the garnished amount, claimant must contact the Department of Justice for details.
