Work-Sharing – Once Your Agreement Is Approved
After Service Canada approves your Work-Sharing agreement, here’s exactly what you need to do: submit reports securely, manage extensions or amendments, and understand rules around training and ongoing obligations.
Secure Reporting via Data Gateway
- Register for Data Gateway via the Employer Contact Centre to submit enrolment sheets and weekly utilization reports.
- Do **not** send Social Insurance Numbers via email or fax. Use Data Gateway or courier only.
Weekly Utilization Reports
- Submit a utilization report every week—this includes weeks of shutdown, holidays, or when no hours are missed due to Work-Sharing.
- Need to correct a previous report? Submit a utilization report amendment using Data Gateway or courier.
Amendments to Your Agreement
- Changes that need approval: extensions, layoffs, staff changes, shutdowns, schedule updates.
- Submit amendment via EMP5100 (with amendment box checked) and EMP5101 (if participants changed), signed by all reps, at least 10 business days before implementation.
- Reflect approved changes in your next utilization report.
Agreement Extensions
- Initial length: 6 to 26 weeks; can be extended by up to 12 weeks (maximum 38 weeks total).
- Requests must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the original end date using EMP5100 and EMP5101.
- A new agreement must be signed upon approval.
Training & Skills Enhancement
- On-the-job or off-site training may be included in recovery measures.
- Training must be done during non-working hours/days—EI does not cover training during scheduled work time.
